The Blue-Headed Pionus is the most popular of the Pionus species. It has a calm personality and is relatively quiet, making a wonderful family pet! Pionus will often bond with several members of a family if socialized correctly at an early age.

This a a beautiful adult breeder. Blue-Headed Pionus are prolific breeders in captivity and are well-established in American aviculture.

The Blue-Headed Pionus is not dimorphic; both sexes have the beautiful blue head. Juveniles often have a lot of green on the head which changes to blue with the first feather molt.

Pionus Parrots should be fed a diet that is high in fresh vegetables and fruits. Pionus are good eaters and love fresh foods. They can become obese if fed only dry seed or pellets.

This chick is about seven weeks of
age. This species weans in about
fourteen weeks.
